CHURCH NOTICES

Canon John Paul’s Silver Jubilee Mass: today Sunday 23rd June Canon John Paul celebrates his Silver Jubilee (25 years) of Priesthood. Out of  those 25 years of  ministry he has spent 15 years here on Barra & Vatersay. Canon John Paul will celebrate an outdoor Mass at Northbay Grotto at 2.30pm  (weather permitting) and afterwards food and refreshments in the Church Hall & grounds. Everyone is welcome! Canon John Paul wishes to thank all those who have been working “behind the scenes” to prepare for the Silver Jubilee celebration. Moran Taing!

Fr Tom Kearns: Sadly Fr Tom passed away on Friday 21st June. He died peacefully in a hospice in Co.Kildare in Ireland. The Funeral will be on Tuesday in Ireland. We commend Fr. Tom’s soul to God, his good and faithful Priest. He was a great character and he did great work in his ministry in Stornoway and left behind a lovely church. He was an Irish Dominican Priest and everywhere he went he was well loved. We extend prayer of love and sympathy to family and friends.  Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Sunday 23rd June: please note that on this weekend of Sunday 23rd June there will be NO 9.30am Mass in Northbay. Instead there will be the 2.30pm Mass at Northbay Grotto for Canon John Paul’s Silver Jubilee.

Tuesday 25th June: please note the Mass in Eoligarry Church will be at 11.00am instead of 10am that day. Canon John Paul will be at Castlebay School for the end of term prize giving therefore Mass will be slightly later.

Peter’s Pence Collection: next weekend is the Feast of St. Peter & St. Paul and we normally take up a special collection called “Peters Pence”. It is an annual collection in favour of the Holy Father’s apostolic and charitable ministry.

Bishop’s letter for Election Day: the Catholic Bishops of Scotland have written a letter about the Elections that are planned for Thursday 4th July. Copies of the letter are available in the church. Please take one home with you.

Fisherman’s Mass & Blessing of Boats: is planned for Sunday 7th July at 2.00pm at Castlebay pier car park.

Fr Chris Chaplain: for the last month Fr Chris has been on retreat on Vatersay- staying in the chapel house. He will head away on Wednesday 26th June. We hope he enjoyed his time on Vatersay and hopefully he will come back and visit us all again.

Led by the Spirit Phase 3: Please take home Bishop Brian’s Pastoral Letter concerning Led by the Spirit Phase 3. The bishop reflects on our call to holiness and our mission of proclaiming Christ. In our much-changed environment what steps are needed to faithfully fulfil our mission? Discernment calls for boldness, honesty and respectful listening but especially for an openness to the Spirit’s promptings. Everyone is encouraged to participate. The method for the parish gatherings will be the conversation in the Spirit. Background information about Conversation in the Spirit, lay ministries and potential Church structures can be found on www.ledbythespirit.rcdai.org.uk
