May Devotions: there will be Rosary & Benediction today in St. Barr’s Northbay at 4.00pm.
Our Lady of Fatima: Wednesday 13th May is the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. The Rosary will be prayed after the 12Noon Mass in Craigston.
Ascension Thursday: this coming Thursday 14th May is the Holyday of Obligation of the Ascension of our Lord. We are obliged (if we can) to attend Mass on this important solemnity. Mass at 10.00am in Northbay and 7.00pm in Castlebay.
Communications Sunday: Next weekend 16th/17th May the Church asks us to remember the work of Communications in the life of the Church. It is a day to reflect on how the Gospel is shared through media, digital platforms, broadcasting and other communications. From parish social media pages and livestreamed Masses to Catholic Television, videos and news coverage are all important in helping people stay connected to the life of the Church. There will be a second collection next weekend to support the work of the office of communications in the Scottish Bishop’s Conference so that it can continue to share the Gospel through digital media, press and social media.
Recent Baptism: we warmly welcome into the family of the Church Teigan Gartshore who was baptised last Sunday in Our Lady of the Waves & St. John on Vatersay. We wish Teigan every blessing of joy, health, peace and happiness and every blessing upon her parents and Godparents.
Mission Appeal: on the weekend of 23rd/24th May (Pentecost Sunday) there will be a Mission Appeal made by the St. Patrick’s Missionary Society (The Kiltegan Fathers). We will have Fr Patrick McCallion, who is based in Stirling, coming to the island for the first time to give the Mission Appeal. Fr Patrick arrives by boat with his car on Wednesday 20th May and will head away on Wednesday 27th May. Fr Patrick ministered in Malawi for 19 years and so he will share his own personal experience of missionary work. There will be a special collection taken up that weekend to support the mission of St. Patrick’s Missionary Society.
Tea after Northbay Mass: since there were a lot of parishioners away last weekend we will instead have the Tea in Northbay hall after this Sundays morning Mass. All welcome.
Sr Marie Tighe: Canon John Paul spoke on the phone last week to Sr Marie Tighe. He hadn’t spoken to her for a good few years and it was lovely to catch up. She is now 86 and her mobility is not good. She has “tunnel vision” with one eye-still able to read when she gets cards and letters. Apart from that she is in “good spirits” and still speaks highly of her time living on Barra. If anyone wishes to send her a wee letter or card her address is Sr. Marie Tighe, Convent of Notre Dame, 266 Wilton Road, Liverpool, L16 8NF. Canon John Paul hopes to pop in and see some time when he is next visiting family in England.
First Holy Communion Sunday: we remember the children preparing for their First Holy Communion on Sunday 7th June-which is the Feast of Corpus Christi. There are 8 children preparing for the Sacrament. We pray for- Alisha MacNeil; Iona MacKinnon; Natalie Gillies; Danny Davidson; Thomas Campbell; Liam MacLean; Cameron Howat & Calum Iain MacNeil
Castlebay Church Choir Practice: each Thursday at 6.00pm in Castlebay Church. All Welcome!
