Church Notices………..

Fr Paul Hackett: we unite with the rest of the Diocese in praying for the repose of the soul of Fr Paul Hackett who died on the Tuesday 26th May in Preston at the age of 96. For many years Fr Paul had been parish priest of Stornoway (from 1992-2005) and many islanders met Fr Paul if they were in Stornoway.Fr Paul also liked to visit Barra and often took lots of lovely pictures as  he was a keen photographer. Fr Paul was a Jesuit Priest and he was in his 80th year of religious life when he died. May God be gracious and merciful upon his good and faithful priest. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Mission Appeal: Fr Patrick McCallion wishes to thank everyone for making him feel so welcome to the island and to our parishes. Fr Patrick spent a week on the island and loved his time before he had to head over to Eriskay to continue his mission appeals.

First Holy Communion Sunday: Next Sunday (7th June) is the important celebration of our First Holy Communions on the island. A very special day for 8 children who have been working away preparing for their First Holy Communion. We pray for-Alisha MacNeil; Iona MacKinnon; Natalie Gillies; Danny Davidson; Thomas Campbell; Liam MacLean; Cameron Howat & Calum Iain MacNeil.

First Holy Communion practice: on Monday 1st June the children who wish to make their first Holy Communion in Castlebay church will have a practice at 3pm in Castlebay church and those who wish Northbay Church will have a practice at 4pm .

Recent Funeral: when Canon John Paul was away there was a funeral. We remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Martin John MacNeil originally from Vatersay who died in Carloway, Isle of Lewis. Martin was 71 when he died. The family brought Martin home to Vatersay to be laid to rest on Vatersay on Monday 25th May after a funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Waves & St. John. We thank Fr Patrick McCallionfor looking after the funeral Mass when Canon John Paul was away. We remember Martin’s family in our prayers at this time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual lighe shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Birthday Blessings: we remember in a very special way this week Peigi Ellie Haggarty of Borve who will celebrate her 104th Birthday on Tuesday 2nd June. It is an amazing and beautiful age to reach and we are blessed that Peigi Ellie is keeping so well. Canon John Paul will celebrate a Thanksgiving Mass in her home in Borve on Monday and will bring the blessings and best wishes of all to her. May God bless Peigi Ellie with joy, peace, health and happiness.

Parish 200 Club Draw: after the vigil Masss in Craigston this evening we will have the draw for the month of May.

Fisherman’s Mass & blessing of Boats: is on Sunday 5th July at Castlebay Pier at 2.00pm.
