CHURCH NOTICES
Christmas decorations & Crib: after all the Masses this weekend we conclude the Christmas Season of the Church and we will start packing away the crib and decorations for another year. Canon John Paul wishes to thank everyone who will help tidy things away. Moran Taing!
Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of JASON BROWN (of Vatersay) who died recently aged 55. Jason’s funeral service will take place in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay on Thursday 16th January at 11.00am and thereafter Jason will be laid to rest in the Vatersay Graveyard. Jason will be received in Castlebay Church on Wednesday evening (15th Jan) when the boat arrives. Everyone is welcome to come along to the Funeral. We extend our prayers of love & sympathy to Alice and all the family at this sad time. May he rest in peace.
Thrift Shop: Canon John Paul wishes to thank the local Thrift Shop for their kind donation at Christmas of £300. The money will go towards the Christmas Flowers for our churches. Many Thanks!
Special Collection: today we will take up a special collection for the Crib Collection-Missionary Children.
Jubilee Year: This New Year of 2025 is a special Jubilee Year (a Holy Year) and the theme for the year will be “Pilgrims of Hope”. 4 Holy doors have now been opened in Rome- St. Peter’s Basilica, St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major and now St. Paul outside the Walls. In many of our Catholic Cathedrals in Scotland many of our Bishops have blessed special crosses for the Jubilee Year. Pope Francis says “A Holy Year is marked as a time of prayers, pilgrimages and indulgences. The ultimate purpose is to inspire repentance, forgiveness and a deeper commitment to the faith”.
Led by the Spirit Collated Report & Bishop’s Response: Sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to Led by the Spirit (LBS). The individual parish reports from LBS Phase 3 have now been collated and published on www.ledbythespirit.rcdai.org.uk Bishop Brian has published his response and a draft Action Plan for implementing LBS’s fruits. Sacrament Classes: the School will start the First Confession/Holy Communion classes soon. There are 12 Children preparing for the First Confession/First Holy Communion. Also the Confirmation classes will begin soon and there are 11 Children preparing for Confirmation. All Children who are preparing for the Sacraments should be coming along to Sunday Mass too. Canon John Paul asks all parents to make sure they are bringing their children along to Sunday Mass.
Date for Sacrament of Confirmation. Bishop Brian will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation upon the children on Saturday 10th May in Our Lady Star of the Sea.
