CHURCH NOTICES
First Holy Communion Sunday: Today we celebrate the First Holy Communions on the island. Today is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi- The Feast of the Body & Blood of Christ. There are 12 Children making their First Holy Communion in our two parishes. There are 4 children in Northbay Church Kalle Currie, Cairistiona Campbell, Katie MacLeod, Charlotte MacNeil. There are 8 Children in Castlebay Church – Eilidh MacLennan, Amelia Monk, Ellis MacDonald, Monica MacLeod, Archie Mac Neil, Colum MacLeod, Kian MacNeil-Smyth & Owen Galbraith. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the children.
Teas in Northbay Hall: today is the first Sunday of June and there will be Teas and refreshments and home baking in Northbay Hall after the 9.30am Sunday Mass. All welcome.
Congratulations: to Peigi Haggarty (Peigi Ellie) who celebrates her 102 Birthday today (2nd June). Canon John Paul recently celebrated a “house Mass” for Peigi for her birthday in her home in Borve. May God bless her with health, peace and happiness!
Recent Deaths: Last week there were two deaths on the mainland of two women from Vatersay. We remember Nan MacNeil & Peggy MacNeil who died. Nan’s funeral will take place on the mainland. Peggy’s Funeral will take place this week on Vatersay. We are not sure which day but hopefully later this week. We commend their souls to God and pray for their eternal rest.
Inverness Gaelic Mass: Fr Ross Crichton will celebrate a Gaelic Mass in St. Ninian’s Church in Inverness on Friday 7th June at 7pm. Please pass on the information to anyone who would appreciate going along to the Gaelic Mass in Inverness. After the Mass there will be a social in the Parish Hall. Everyone welcome!
New Bishop for Scotland: Pope Francis has appointed Fr Andrew McKenzie as the new Bishop for Dunkeld. Fr Andrew is a 59 year old Priest of the Archdiocese of Glasgow. At present he is the Administrator of the Cathedral in Glasgow. We keep Fr Andrew McKenzie in our prayers as he prepares for his Episcopal Ordination.
Led by the Spirit Phase 3: Phase 3 of Led by the Spirit begins on the weekend of 8th and 9th June, coinciding with the Feast of St Columba. The third and final phase of our diocesan discernment process reflects on what is needed for us to live out our mission more fully. We are looking for concrete proposals. A Pastoral Letter from Bishop Brian will be distributed and background materials will be available on www.ledbythespirit.rcdai.org.uk next weekend.
Fr. Chris Chaplin: we warmly welcome Fr Chris Chaplin who is a Priest of the Sacred Heart Order. Fr Chris will stay in the Vatersay Chapel house for most of the month of June on a retreat. Fr Chris is from Australia and at the moment he lives and works in Rome with the Sacred Heart order. We hope Fr Chris will enjoy his stay on the islands.
Canon John Paul silver anniversary of Priesthood: Canon John Paul celebrates his Silver Anniversary (25 Years) of his Priesthood in June. Canon John Paul will mark the special occasion of his anniversary with an outdoor Mass at Northbay Grotto on Sunday 23rd June at 2.30pm and afterwards food and refreshments in the Church grounds.
