The Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady: please note that this weekend we celebrate the lovely Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. It was back in 1950- Pope Pius XII solemnly proclaimed to the Church and to the world; “the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the close of her earthly life, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven”.
Rosary on Feast of Assumption: today on Sunday (16th August) there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Rosary in St. Barr’s church at 3.00pm in honour of the Feast of the Assumption of our Lady.
Sick & Retired Priests Collection: this weekend we will take up a second collection in support of our sick & retired priests in the Diocese.
Recent Baptism: we warmly welcome into the family of the Church Theo Finlay who was baptised last Sunday in Our Lady Star of the Sea. We wish Theo every blessing of health, peace, joy & happiness.
Funeral: we continue to remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Charlie McAuley of Oban who died recently at the age of 91. His Requiem Mass is on Wednesday 19th August at 10.00am in St. Columba’s Cathedral. His remains will be taken into the Cathedral on Tuesday 18th August at 6pm. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to Fr Roddy McAuley and all the McAuley family at this time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Canon John Paul: will be away from Monday to Friday this week. While he is on the mainland he will attend the funeral of Charlie McAuley which is on Wednesday in Oban. If you need to contact Canon John Paul then please phone mobile number 07951128475.
Weekday Mass: there will be no weekday Mass till Saturday of this week.
New Statue of St. Barr: as we all know the “good news” that we are close to having a new Statue of St. Barr being placed again on the wee island in the bay of Northbay. Things are progressing well and we hope to have the new Statue in place in September and then to have a Mass of Thanksgiving on the Feast of St. Barr which is Friday 25th September in St. Barr’s Church at 4.00pm. After the Mass then we will gather outside the church and a group will go over to the wee island and the new Statue of St. Barr will be unveiled. It will be a historic day for our island and also a truly happy celebration for our island. More details of the celebration will be announced.
Fr Matthias Stepper: we have Fr Matthias staying in the Vatersay Chapel house for another week before he heads north to Harris & Lewis and then his return journey back to Germany.
