Church Notices………..

Stations of the Cross: there will be Stations of the Cross today (22nd March) in Castlebay at 3.00pm. Also after Mass on Wednesday & Friday.

Diocesan Chrism Mass: this coming Wednesday (25th March) the Chrism Mass takes place in St. Columba’s Cathedral in Oban at 12.30pm. Bishop Brian extends an invitation to all around the Diocese to the Chrism Mass. Canon John Paul will not be going to the Mass. The weather midweek is not good and there is always uncertainty if boats come or go. So he will remain on the island.

Structures of the Church: The Holy See has asked the Catholic Bishops of Scotland to reflect on the structures of the Church in our country and how best serve in her mission in the years ahead. Please pick up the statement from the Bishops to reflect on.

Scottish Bishops Pastoral letter: please pick up the letter from our Scottish Catholic Bishops about the future Scottish Parliament Elections on Thursday 7th May. The Bishops encourage us to really think about our vote and to do so from our catholic faith.

SCIAF fundraiser: Congratulations to Scott, Robbie, Rowan, Lewis & Ross who did so well last weekend in their fundraising challenge for SCIAF. Rowan ran 12.5km across the island, Scott & Lewis cycled 50km from Benbecula to Eriskay and Robbie & Ross swam 236 lengths of the local swimming pool. They completed their 60km in 60mins!  They have raised about £5000 for SCIAF (£1000 each) –which is absolutely amazing and deserve a huge “pat on the back” for their efforts. It’s a lovely witness to see our island youth do such wonderful things for Charity and now many families in Ethiopia will now get fresh clean water.

Craigston Vigil Mass: the clocks move forward next weekend- on Saturday 28th March. This will be the last 4.00pm Vigil Mass time. After that date we move the Vigil Mass time back to 6.00pm.

Children’s Liturgy: we have already started the Children’s liturgy for Northbay each Sunday Morning at 9.30am. Hopefully after the Easter holidays we plan to start the Children’s Liturgy for Castlebay. An announcement will be made soon when this will start.

Palm Sunday & Holy Week: it’s amazing to think next Sunday is Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week. At all Masses next weekend Palm leaves and Palm crosses will be blessed for us to take home and enter holy week.Let’s embrace Holy Week and deepen our faith as we learn to carry our cross and look forward to the joy of Easter.

Assisted Dying Bill: the Catholic Bishops of Scotland thank all parishes for their prayers and support in helping stop the “Assisted dying Bill” that was raised in our Scottish Parliament last Tuesday. Thankfully many of our Scottish MSPS’s “saw the light” to do the right thing.

Gift Aid Envelopes: are available for collection in the churches. If you pay tax and would like to give your Sunday collection as Gift Aid then please speak with Canon John Paul. A quick form to fill in and then you are allocated an envelope number!
