Justice & Peace: we will take up a 2nd collection for the work of Justice & Peace in Scotland this weekend.

St. Brigid’s Ceilidh: As we come to the end of the month of January there is always the lovely feast of the Irish Saint St. Brigid on 1st February. This Feast in Ireland signals the beginning of spring and an end to the darkness of winter, ushering in a new season of hope and growth on the land and the birth of animals. To mark the feast there will be a ceilidh in Northbay Hall on Saturday 31st January at 7.30pm. All donations raised will go towards the maintenance of Borve Graveyard. It’s always a lovely ceilidh with performances from the young ones on customs associated with St. Brigid. All Welcome!

Candlemas Candles: Candles will be blessed at Masses next Sunday. As we approach the “Feast of the Presentation of the child Jesus in the Temple” we like to bless candles in the church to remind us that Jesus is “the light of the world”. Therefore candles will be blessed and you can take a candle home with you. If you have a candle yourself and you would like it blessed then bring it along to Mass too.

Castlebay Church Choir Practice: we will start again the weekly choir practice in Castlebay Church each Thursday at 6.00pm (note the new time). Therefore beginning this coming Thursday 29th January at 6pm. If you are interested in singing hymns then please come along.

Sacrament Classes: The Children in P4 and P7 who are preparing for the Sacraments of First Confession/First Holy Communion and also Sacrament of Confirmation will start their Classes in the School very soon. Canon John Paul wishes to thank the teachers who will help prepare the children for the Sacraments this year.

Sacrament of Confirmation: this year Bishop Brian will confirm 10 children in P7 on Saturday 25th April at 12 Noon in Castlebay Church. Canon John Paul encourages all parents of the Children preparing for Confirmation to come along to Sunday Mass.

Date of First Holy Communions: this year there will be 8 children preparing for their First Confession and then for their First Holy Communion. The date for First Holy Communion will be Sunday 7th June– the Feast of Corpus Christi. The Children can choose either the 9.30am Northbay Mass or 11.30am Castlebay Mass. Canon John Paul encourages all parents of Children preparing for the sacraments to come along to Sunday Mass. The most important way to prepare the children for First Holy Communion is to come to Sunday Mass.
