CHURCH NOTICES
New Pope: Habemus Papam! We have a Pope! On Thursday 8th May we received the good news that a new Pope had been elected. The famous “white smoke” came out of the chimney of the Sistine Chapel to announce to the world that the College of Cardinals had elected a new Pope. His name is Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost and he has chosen the name Pope Leo XIV. Pope Leo is the first North American Pope. Born in Chicago. He was an Augustinian Priest. He is 69 years of age. For many years he lived and worked in Peru in South America and he also worked for a few years in the Vatican. He is fluent in English, Italian, Spanish, Portugese and French. He is a very clever and gifted man who has now been chosen to be the successor of St. Peter- our new holy Father- the servant of the servants of God. Our thoughts and prayers are with Pope Leo at this time.
Rosary & Benediction: today (11th May) there will be Rosary & Benediction in St. Barr’s Northbay at 4.00pm. This is Good Shepherd Sunday and a special day for prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and religious life. We will offer the Rosary for the special intention of more Vocations for our Diocese of Argyll & the Isles.
Pastoral Letter “Called to care, not to kill”: the Catholic Bishops of Scotland have written a Pastoral letter for us to take home. Last year we were alerted by the Bishops of a Bill in the Scottish Government to introduce assisted suicide for citizens in Scotland aged sixteen and over. Many of you did write to our MSP- Alasdair Allan to encorage him to vote against this Bill which he did. We have to keep our continued prayers going against this Bill and pray for the sancity of all life.
Sacrament of Confirmation: we congratulate the children who were recently Confirmed by Bishop Brian. We pray for Olivia MacNeil; Ella Howat; Danièal Wilson; Charlotte Campbell; Eilidh MacLeod; Summer Campbell; Ealasaid Galbraith, Aiden MacNeil-Smyth; Calum MacNeil; Daniel Nicholson & Finlay Paterson. We thank Bishop Brian for travelling over to Confirm the children and for also visiting the schools and visiting some of the housebound on the island.
The month of May: is a special month we dedicate in prayer to Our Lady. The Month of May is the month of Mary. A good time to pray the Rosary more often.
Liturgy Works: The Diocese is planning to start again the Diocesan Liturgy Works weekend-focusing on Liturgical Music. It will be 19th-21st September in the Conforti Institute in Coatbridge. For more information please pick up an information sheet in the church porch.
