Sunday Rosary: today on Sunday (11th October) there will be Rosary in St Barr’s at 3.00pm. Pope Leo encourages us all to pray the Rosary this month for peace in our World. Pope Leo says “that Mary is a source of consolation for a world wounded by war”.
Church Heating in Eoligarry Church: Canon John Paul has been overwhelmed by a very kind donation to cover the cost of the new “air to air source” heating for Eoligarry Church. Sadly the name is anonymous but whenever they feel happy to speak to Canon John Paul to let him know their name then he is happy to wait. Hopefully the new heating units will arrive soon and they will be a great help to look after the fabric of the Church of St. Vincent de Paul. Many Thanks! Moran Taing!
Bishop Brian’s Online Diocesan Discussion: last Monday we had our first online introductory discussion with Bishop Brian and the rest of the Diocese. There were about 70 people online for the discussion which was a good turn out. Every parish throughout the diocese was present. For the next 8 Mondays through October & November we will continue to have our online discussions. You can follow things on the Diocesen website (www.rcdai.org.uk) and click on “Discerning Mission Homepage” to see what are the topics & questions for each weekly discussion.
St Barr’s Hall Northbay: please note that Northbay hall is now closed to the public until we have work done on the inside of the hall. It has been on the plans for a while to do some work. The Hall was put forward for a Carbon grant by Voluntary Action Barra & Vatersay. A grant was awarded to the Hall back in July this year and now we have to close the hall so that we can begin work on the hall – new electricity meter, new hot water system, new doors, etc. There are quite a few things we are going to renew. The use of the Hall will be missed but hopefully it will be worth the wait when we reopen it.
Sacrament Forms: Canon John Paul has left Sacrament forms with both schools for parents to fill in if their child is due for First Confession/ Communion Classes (Primary 4) or the Sacrament of Confirmation (Primary 7). If parents could fill in the forms and pass them on to the Schools so that we can start to plan classes and look at possible dates for the sacraments.
Craigston Vigil Mass: on the weekend of 24th/25th October the clocks change and go back one hour for the winter months. Over the last couple of years we have moved the vigil Mass time from 6pm to 4pm for the Winter months- until the clocks change in the Springtime. Therefore on Saturday 31st October the Craigston vigil Mass time will be at 4.00pm for the winter months.
Missio Sunday & Special Collection: next Sunday (18th October) is World Mission Sunday. Every October the Church stops to pray and support those in the Mission of the Church. This year marks the 100th World Missionary Sunday. The theme for this year is “One in Christ, United in Mission”. We will take up a special collection at all Masses next weekend in support of Missio Scotland.
Mass Census: each year the Bishops Conference ask every parish to take a Mass Census and see how many are attending Mass over a weekend. This year it will be the weekend of 24th/25th October.
