Bishop Brian’s On Line Diocesan Discussion: Canon John Paul wishes to thank those who put their names forward for the online Diocesan Discussion group for October & November.
Recent Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Catherine (Cathie) MacKinnon of St. Brendan’s Road who passed away on Monday 21st September in St Brendan’s Hospital at the age of 84. Cathie’s funeral took place on Saturday 26th September in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay and then she was laid to rest in Cuithir Cemetery. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to all Cathie’s family and friends at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
Wedding: next Saturday 3rd October we have the wedding of Ally MacInnes & Anna Ferguson MacLean in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay at 3.00pm. Let us pray for Ally & Anna as they prepare for their wedding day that the Lord may bless them with a wonderful happy day. If any choir members can help then please come along.
Prayers for the sick: we remember in our prayers two priests who are not keeping well just now and have often come to Barra to let Canon John Paul get away. Fr Donald MacLeod (The White Fathers in Rutherglen) and Fr Bernard Fox (Mill Hill Missionaries in Cardonald). Please keep them both in you prayers for healing.
The Month of October: begins on Thursday and the month of October is the month of the Holy Rosary. So let us use this month to pray the rosary more often.
Blessing of the new Statue of St. Barr: Canon John Paul wishes to thank everyone who made the celebration of the Blessing of the new statue of St Barr such a great success. It was a wonderul happy celebration for our island community. So much hard work went in behind the scenes and it certainly paid off. Even the weather was dry! We now have a beautiful bronze statue of St. Barr in the bay of Northbay for all the world to see. This beautful moment for our island can reignite our faith to love and serve the Lord just as St Barr did. May St Barr our patron guide and protect us, our families and parishes. St Barr …….pray for us!
200 Club Draw: the draw for September will be made after the Craigston Vigil Mass this weekend.
Church Heating in Eoligarry Church: Canon John Paul has been looking into getting new “air to air” source heating for Eoligarry Church. Canon John Paul has been now given a quote of £8400 on new 2 air to air source heating units. Also these units will be sprayed with a Northsea coating to prevent rust and corrosion. If anyone wishes to help with any donations toward the costs they can do a bank transfer to Northbay parish. RC DCESE OF ARGYLL & THE ISLES NORTHBAY Account No: 65628061 Sort Code: 83-91-25
