Prayers for the faithful departed: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Charlie McAuley of Oban. Charlie was the father of Fr Roddy McAuley-who we all know very well here on the islands. Fr Roddy is parish Priest in Dunoon. Charlie was 91 and over the last year has not been well and recently in Oban he received the last Sacraments of the Church and he found that peace on Sunday 26th July with his family by his bedside. We pray that God our loving Father may pour his merciful love upon the soul of Charlie and we extend our prayers of love and sympathy to Fr Roddy and all the McAuley family at this time. Charlie was one of life’s wonderful characters and a man of faith. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Bishop’s Fund Collection: next weekend (1st/2nd August) we will take up a special collection in support of Bishop Brian and all that he does in his ministry as Bishop of our Diocese of Argyll & the Isles. Office administration, and traveling around the diocese are just some things that Bishop Brian needs support with- it all mounts up and so any help in supporting the Bishop’s Fund collection is important.
World Day of Prayer for Grandparents & the Elderly: today on Sunday 26th July Pope Leo asks us all to remember the 6th World day of prayer for Grandparents & the elderly. Pope Leo says “this day of prayer is an opportunity to rediscover that the church is called to be a mother to all and that at any age it is always possible to recognize ourselves as sons and daughters of God. It is a day to remember the lovely custom of visiting Grandparents and the elderly members of our families”. May the intercession of St. Joachim & St. Anne -the parents of Mary and therefore Grandparents of our Lord Jesus-bless all Grandparents and all our elderly at this time.
Barra 200 Club: we will have the draw for the month of July after the vigil Mass this weekend.
Catholic Bishops of Scotland: have a sent a letter to our new Prime Minister to wish him well in his role as Prime Minister of our Country. Andy Burnham is also the first Catholic Prime Minister to take on this role of Prime Minister of our Country. We pray that his Catholic upbringing may help him in his important decisions for our Country.
Fr. Stefan Park: Again Fr Stefan thanks everyone for making his stay on Barra so memorable. He enjoyed the lovely weeks of good weather and meeting so many parishioners. He has now moved onto the east of Scotland to Jedburgh to help in the parish and then he returns back to the islands to look after Stornoway parish for a couple of weeks.
Fr Chris Chaplin: will head away next Saturday back to Rome. We hope he enjoyed his month’s stay on Vatersay and we look forward to hopefully welcoming Fr Chris back another time.
Fr Matthias Stepper: next weekend there will be a Priest from Bavaria in Germany coming to stay on Vatersay for few weeks for a break and retreat. We hope Fr Matthias will enjoy his first visit to the islands.
