Fisherman’s Mass & blessing of Boats: Today Sunday 5th July is the annual celebration of the Fisherman’s Mass & the blessing of the boats. Sadly due to the forecast of heavy rain on Sunday afternoon we will now move the Mass indoors to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Castlebay at 2.00pm.Sadly there will be no formal blessing of the boats. Instead Canon John Paul will visit the island piers and bless boats that are alongside. Sadly we cannot control the weather but we can control coming together and uniting our prayers for the safety of our Fishermen and all Seafarers. All Welcome to the Mass!
Sea Sunday: next weekend (Sunday 12th July) is Sea Sunday and special prayers are said in all parishes throughout the UK for all seafarers. Seafarers are increasingly finding themselves working in areas of conflict and always far from home and so many have uncertain futures. We just have to look at the problem in the Strait of Hormuz just now. The huge disruption caused to all seafarers there. Therefore Sea Sunday is an important day to pray for the safety of all our seafarers.
Stella Maris Special collection: next Sunday for Sea Sunday we will take up a 2nd collection for the good work of Stella Maris-helping support those who help our seafarers in our UK Ports.
Fr. Stefan Park: we warmly welcome Fr Stefan Park to the island.Fr Stefan is an Augustinian Priest based in London but originally from Cambuslang. Fr. Stefan will help look after the parishes and let Canon John Paul get away for a Summer break. We hope Fr Stefan has an enjoyable time on the island and that the weather will be kind to him.
Fr Chris Chaplin: we also have Fr Chris Chaplin staying in the Vatersay Chapel House for the month of July. Fr Chris was here in June 2024 and stayed a month on Vatersay. He liked it so much he has returned. Fr Chris is a priest of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and from Australia. We hope he enjoys his break.
Summer Holidays: Canon John Paul will take a summer holiday after the Fisherman’s Mass- from Monday 6th July till Friday 24th July. While he is away Fr Stefan Park will be looking after the parishes.
