CHURCH NOTICES
Rosary & Benediction: today (Sunday 5th October) there will be Rosary & Benediction in Our Lady Star of the Sea, Castlebay at 4.00pm. The Rosary will be special prayers for peace. Pope Leo encourages us all to pray for peace through the month of October.
Canon John Paul: will be heading for the mainland this week to attend the Schoenstatt Retreat Centre in Lennoxtown. Each October Canon John Paul attends the retreat centre to help lead talks and prayers with men from different Dioceses in Scotland who are thinking about the Priesthood. While Canon John Paul is away Fr Donald MacLeod (of the Missionary White Fathers) in Rutherglen will come to Barra.
Fr. Donald MacLeod: on Tuesday (7th October) Fr Donald will arrive by boat and he will stay for a week to look after the daily Masses in our Parishes while Canon John Paul is away. Fr Donald wil head back to the mainland on Monday13th October.
The month of October: is an important month in praying the Rosary. The 7th October is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Pope Leo asks us all to pray this month for Peace in our world during this month of October. The holy Rosary is a very powerful prayer given to us by Our Lady and she encourages us to pick up our Rosary and to pray it each day during the month of October. Our Lady said to St Dominic “I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary. St Therese of Lisieux (The little flower) beautfully said “The Rosary is a long chain that links heaven and earth. One end of it is in our hands and the other end is in the hands of the Holy Virgin.”
Mass at St. Brendan’s Home: please note there will be No Mass in St. Brendan’s Home next Friday 10th October.
Mission Sunday: October is Mission Month in the Church, which culminates in World Mission Sunday on the 19th October. During this Jubilee Year of Hope and in particualr, during this month, we are invited by the holy Father to recall our baptismal vocation to share in the mission of the universal church, “to go out to the whole world and spread the Good News”- the news of Hope in Christ. We can realise this through our prayers, sacrifices and financial support for the church in 1100 mission dioceses in the world. This year the focus of Missio is on the people of Bolivia. Mission Sunday is the 19th October. On that day we will take up a special collection for MISSIO and there will be a letter read out on behalf of Fr Vincent Lockhart who is the national director of Missio Scotland.
Please pick up the Missio Scotland Magazine called “WE ARE MISSION! It’s free and really interesting.
St. Barr’s Statue: its lovely to hear the news that the plans for the new St. Barr’s Statue in Northbay is moving quickly forward after the recent generous donation which has brought the total raised over £100,000 which is amazing. Plans are already in progress of moving things forward for the new statue. It’s always nice to hear Good News!!
Enrollment for Sacraments: letters have been sent out through the School to see how many Children will be preparing for their First Holy Communion and also for the Sacrament of Confirmation. If parents can fill them in and pass them onto the school.
