CHURCH NOTICES
Canonization of two new Saints in Rome: today in St. Peter’s square Pope Leo XIV will celebrate a special Mass in which he will canonize two new Saints. We pray for the intercession of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati & St. Carlo Acutis to bless all our families, our parishes and especially our youth.
Recent Funerals: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Anne Marie McKirdy who passed away in Glasgow on 26th August aged 61. Anne Marie’s Requiem Mass took place on Saturday 30th August in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay and she was then laid to rest in Cuithir cemetery. We extend our prayers of love & sympathy to Mike and all the McKirdy family and to all the Sinclair family at this very sad time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
We also pray for the repose of the soul of Nellie Philomena Wilson who passed away on 28th August in St. Brendan’s Hospital at the age of 84. Her Requiem Mass took place on Sunday 31st August in Our Lady Star of the Sea and then she was laid to rest in Eoligarry Graveyard. We extend our prayers of love & sympathy to all the Wilson family and all Nellie’s relatives and friends at this time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.
Tea after Mass: after Northbay Sunday Mass today there will be tea in the Hall. All Welcome!
Mass at St. Brendan’s Home: each Friday Canon John Paul celebrates Mass in St. Brendan’s Home at 2.30pm. Sadly when we had strict Covid 19 rules, we could not go into St. Brendan’s Home. Now that has changed and we are going to open up the Mass in the Home to the Public especially helping those who will find it easier to go to this Mass. After the Mass there will be Tea & Coffee served.
Bingo & Coffee Afternoon for SCIAF: next Sunday 14th September there will be a combined Coffee afternoon + Bingo. Two things many of us enjoy!! Tea & coffee & homebaking will be available from 2pm and then at 3pm Bingo will start. It will be in Northbay Hall. You can go to one or go to both. All proceeds go to SCIAF who this year celebrate their 60th anniversary. Any donations of home baking and also prizes for the Bingo will be gratefully accepted. Please contact Theresa Irving (07780940787) or Mairi Campell (07377808463) for more details.
Parish Fabric Committee: Canon John Paul will organise a Committee for Castlebay Parish and one for Northbay Parish to help support him in looking after the fabric and maintenance of our Churches and Chapel houses.
Parish Fundraising Committee: we will also organsie committees for each parish to help fundraising for our parishes so that we can plan various work and projects for the parishes.
Fr. Mayamiko: wishes to thank everyone who made him feel so welcome to the island and to our parishes. He enjoyed his two weeks on the island. He is now in Campbeltown parish and then he will head back to Oxford to complete his studies.
Ecclesiastical Students Fund: this weekend we take up a 2nd collection for the Ecclesisatical students fund for the Diocese.
