CHURCH NOTICES

Prayers for the faithful departed: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Mary Ann MacNeil of Horve who peacefully passed away on Tuesday 18th February aged 86. Mary Ann’s Funeral took place on Saturday 22nd February in Our Lady Star of the Sea in Castlebay and she was laid to rest in Cuithir Cemetery. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary Ann’s brother Sandy and with all the family and relatives at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

We pray for the repose of the soul of Peggy MacRury who peacefully passed away in St. Brendan’s home on Saturday 22nd February at the age of 89. Peggy had been in St Brendan’s Home for the last couple of years. The Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday 26th February at 11.30am. Peggy will be received into Castlebay Church on Tuesday at 9.00pm.  We pray for Peggy’s soul and we pray for all her family at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.

We also pray for the repose of Bob MacLean– the father of Canon William MacLean (Parish Priest of Stornoway). Bob passed away on Tuesday 18th February in Stornoway Hospital. We extend our prayers of support, love and sympthy to Canon William at this sad time.

Parish 200 Club: There will be a slight delay in getting the subscriptions for the Parish 200 club. Hopefully soon we will start to gather the subscriptions for the year and begin the monthly draws.

Jubilee Year Deanery Mass: It is hoped that within the Diocese there will be “Deanery Masses of Hope” celebrated at different points in the year. We have three Deaneries in the Diocese. Therefore three Masses will be organised with Bishop Brian. It is planned that the Island Deanery will hold the Jubilee Mass here on Barra. We are possibly looking at the 1st weekend of August-maybe Sunday 3rd August. We might look at the possibility of an outdoor Mass at Northbay Grotto. More details will be anoounced.

Diocesan Jubilee Cross: In the Cathedral in Oban Bishop Brian has blessed a special Jubilee Cross for the Diocese. It is planned that this Cross will do a tour of the Diocese over the coming Jubilee year and it will be welcomed into many of our churches throughout the Diocese. Hopefully when the Deanery Mass takes place on Barra the Jubilee Cross will be present and then it will go from Barra to Eriskay to South Uist and Benbecula and Stornoway.

Ash Wednesday: its amazing to think that Ash Wednesday is just around the corner. Wednesday 5th March is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.

SCIAF: the SCIAF boxes have arrived and will be given out next Sunday (30th Feb) at the weekend Masses. This year the focus will be oh helping the people of Columbia.

Tea/Coffee after Mass: next Sunday is the first Sunday of the month and there will be Tea in Northbay Hall after the 9.30am Mass.
