CHURCH NOTICES

Recent Funeral: we were all very saddened last week by the loss of a much loved parishioner from St. Barr’s Parish in Northbay.  Our dear Roddy Nicholson (Roddy Dhomhnall Eoin- or Big Lou) passed away last Monday 30th  September in his own home  in Bayherivagh/Northbay after a very short illness. 6 weeks ago Roddy was told of his illness and now he has peacefully passed away. Roddy was 75 when he died. He was well known for his tireless work in and around the Church and all around Northbay and all over the island. Roddy was often seen cutting grass or painting houses (inside and outside) or pouring cement- he worked hard and he did everything with a great smile. The Funeral Mass was last Wednesday 2nd October in St. Barr’s. The Church was full to capacity and many others were standing outside as Roddy was such a popular figure on the island. After the Mass Roddy was laid to rest in Eoligarry Graveyard alongside his late wife Katag Bheag. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to all Roddy’s family and friends at this sad time. As a parish and island community we will miss Roddy! Our loss is heavens gain! Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Special Collection: at the recent Funeral of Roddy Nicholson the family asked for a Collection to be taken up for St. Barr’s Church. The collection raised £1,400. Thank you all for your kindness and support.

The month of October: is called the month of the Holy Rosary. So let us use this month of October to pray more often the Rosary and meditate on the Glorious Mysteries (Wednesday & Sunday), Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesday & Friday), Joyful Mysteries (Monday & Saturday) and Luminous Mysteries (Thursday) of the Rosary.

Rosary after weekday Mass: after Mass from Tuesday to Saturday the Rosary will be prayed immediately after Mass.

October Devotions: today (6th October) we will have Rosary and Benediction at 4.00pm in St. Barr’s Northbay. Next Sunday 13th October 4.00pm in Our Lady Star of the Sea, Castlebay.

Tea in Northbay Hall: today is the first Sunday of October (6th Oct) and there will be Tea/Coffee and home baking  in Northbay Hall after the 9.30am Sunday Mass. All Welcome!

Northbay Hall toilet facilities: please note that the Hall will always be open before and after Mass on Thursday & Sunday and also when there is a funeral or any other church celebrations. It will be open specifically for access to toilet facilities.

Children’s Liturgy & PVG Forms: To be able to help with the Children’s Liturgy you will have to fill in a PVG Form for safeguarding reasons. There are some parents in the parish who already are in the PVG Scheme in the Church and can renew your PVG form if you wish. Please let Canon John Paul know if you wish to help with the Children’s Liturgy and that you are happy to fill in a PVG form. In Castlebay Parish you can speak with Jackie Sinclair and in Northbay Parish with Sineag MacKinnon.
