CHURCH NOTICES

Requiem Mass: we were all saddened to hear of the death of a much loved parishioner and character of our island and especially from Northbay Parish. Roddy Nicholson (Roddy Dhomhnall Eoin) peacefully passed away on Monday 30th September in his own home in Northbay surrounded by the love and care of all his family. Roddy was 75. It was a very short illness. Roddy’s Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday 2nd October at 11.30am in St. Barr’s, Northbay. The coffin will be carried down from the family home at 11am on Wednesday and will arrive in time for the 11.30am Mass. Roddy was highly thought of by everyone and he will be sorely missed by us all. Let us unite together in prayer and pray for the repose of the soul of Roddy and to pray for his family at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

The month of October: is also called the month of the Holy Rosary. The 7th of October is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. So let us use this month of October to pray more often the Rosary and meditate on the Glorious, Sorrowful, Joyful and Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary. Our Lady has always highlighted the importance of praying the Rosary. When she appeared in Lourdes Bernadette prayed the Rosary. When Our Lady appeared in Fatima the three children prayed the Rosary. The Prayer of the Rosary is a powerful prayer and as St. Padre Pio says “the Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today”.

Rosary after weekday Mass: after Mass on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday the Rosary will be prayed immediately after Mass.

October Devotions: next Sunday (6th October) we will have Rosary and Benediction at 4.00pm in St. Barr’s Northbay.

Tea in Northbay Hall: next Sunday is the first Sunday of October (6th Oct) and there will be tea/coffee and home baking  in Northbay Hall after the 9.30am Sunday Mass. All Welcome!

Northbay Hall toilet facilities: please note that the Hall will always be open before and after Mass on Thursday & Sunday and also when there is a funeral or any other church celebrations. It will be open specifically for access to toilet facilities.

Recent Baptisms: Again we were blessed on the island to have another couple of Baptisms. We warmly welcome into the family of the Church FERGUS MacNEIL who was baptised on Saturday 28th September on Vatersay. We wish Fergus and his parents Lorna & Martin and the Godparents Claire & Sean every health, joy, peace and blessings.

We also welcome into the family of the Church HAYLEY GILLIES who was baptised on Friday 27th September in Northbay. We wish Hayley and her parents Mairi & Daniel and the Godparents Emma & Domhnall Iain every health, joy, peace and blessings.

Children’s Liturgy & PVG Forms: Some parents have come forward to ask if they can start again the Children’s Liturgy on a Sunday morning during Mass time. To be able to help in the Children’s Liturgy you will have to fill in a PVG Form for safeguarding reasons. There are some parents in the parish who already are in the PVG Scheme in the Church and can renew your PVG form if you wish. Please let Canon John Paul know if you wish to help with the Children’s Liturgy and that you are happy to fill in a PVG form. In Castlebay Parish you can speak with Jackie Sinclair and in Northbay Parish with Sineag MacKinnon about filling in the PVG forms.

Housebound / Lapaich: Canon John Paul is keen to update his list for visiting the Housebound around the island. If there is someone you know who cannot get along to church and would like a visit from the Priest with the Sacraments (especially with Holy Communion)- then please let Canon John Paul know and he will organise his visits to the Housebound (Lapaich).
