Recent death: let us remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Allan MacLeod of Glen who passed away on Saturday (9th March) at the age of 69. Latterly Allan had been resident in St. Brendan’s Home. Allan was well known within the island community and we extend our prayers of love & sympathy to all Allan’s family at this time. Details of the funeral will be announced when there is more information. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

 

Recent Funerals: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Donald Elder who suddenly and peacefully passed away last Sunday in his home in Bruernish. He was only 61. We all knew Donald from his time working on the boat between Barra and Eriskay. He had been on that run for the last 21 years. The Requiem Mass took place on Thursday 7th March in St. Barr’s Northbay and then Donald was laid to rest in Eoligarry Cemetery. We extend all our prayers, love and sympathy to Margaret Anne and the family at this very sad time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

 

We also remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Joanne MacMillan (Joanne Ailig Dhuibh) of Eoligarry who peacefully passed away last Sunday in St. Brendan’s Home at the age of 87. Joanne’s Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday 6th March in St. Vincent de Paul’s church in Eoligarry. Afterwards Joanne was laid to rest in Eoligarry cemetery. We extend our prayers, love and sympathy to all Joanne’s family at this time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

 

SCIAF Sunday: today is the 4th Sunday of Lent and we normally offer special prayers for the good work of SCIAF and also we take up a second collection. Therefore at all Masses there will be a special collection for SCIAF. Also during the Mass there will be a letter read out on behalf of Bishop Brian McGee who is the Bishop President of SCIAF.

 

Prayers for the sick: please remember in your prayers a couple of our priests who are not so well just now. Fr Roddy Johnstone & Fr Tony Wood. Many of us know Fr Roddy from his time in the parish in Stornoway. At the moment he is the Parish priest of Rothesay. Fr Tony is the parish priest of Campbeltown. Let us keep them both in our prayers along with the sick of the parish and the island community at this time.

 

Fr Dermot Duggan Talk: Over on South Uist this week- in the Cnoc Soiller building in Daliburgh they are hosting a talk with Fr Michael MacDonald on Tuesday 12th March from 1.30pm-3pm. The Talk is about Fr. Dermot Duggan “Apostle to the Hebrides” 1620-1657. Refreshments will also be served after the Talk. All Welcome.

 

Sunday “Stations of the Cross”: this Sunday (9th March) there will be Stations of the Cross at 3.00pm in Castlebay. The Stations will be SCIAF Meditations on the way of the cross.

 

Weekday “Stations of the Cross”: On Wednesday there will be Stations of the Cross after Mass in Craigston. Also there will be Stations of the Cross after the 10am Mass on Tuesday in Eoligarry and after the Friday 10am Mass in Vatersay.

 

Diocesan Chrism Mass: this year it will be on Wednesday 20th March at 6.30pm in St. Columba’s Cathedral in Oban. Bishop Brian extends a warm welcome to all!

 

Craigston Vigil Mass time: at the moment the Craigston Vigil Mass is at 4.00pm for the Winter months (November to March). The clocks will go forward on Sunday 31st March. Therefore Canon John Paul will move the Vigil Mass on Saturday back to 6.00pm after that. Therefore from Saturday 6th April the Vigil Mass will be at 6.00pm.
