CHURCH NOTICES

Sunday Stations of the Cross: this Sunday (25th Feb) there will be stations of the cross at 3.00pm in Our Lady Star of the Sea, Castlebay.

 

Weekday Stations of the Cross: Every Wednesday at 7.00pm in St. Brendan’s Craigston. Also after the 10am Mass on Tuesday in Eoligarry and after the Friday 10am Mass in Vatersay.

 

Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Iain MacIsaac who died in Oban on Saturday 17th February aged 79. Iain was originally from South Uist but he lived in Oban along with his wife Flora. They would often come to Barra and it was Iain’s wish to be laid to rest on Barra. The Requiem Mass will be on Monday 26th February at 11.00am. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to all Iain’s family and friends at this sad time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

 

Recent Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Jane MacKinnon (Sineag Ealasaid of Glen) who died on Thursday 22nd February in St. Brendan’s Home at the age of 78. The Requiem Mass took place on Saturday 24th February in Our Lady Star of the Sea, Castlebay. After the funeral Mass Sineag was laid to rest in Cuithir Cemetery. We extend our prayers of love & sympathy to all Sineag’s family, relatives & friends at this time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual lights shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

 

Baptism: we warmly welcome into the family of the Church Meadhbh MacNeil who was baptised in St. Barr’s Northbay on Saturday 24th February. We wish Meadhbh every blessing of health, joy, peace and happiness and every blessing upon her parents Padruig & Samantha and the Godparents.

 

Special Collection: today we will take up a second collection for the Diocesan Pastoral Formation. This fund supports various pastoral initiatives throughout the diocese including safeguarding and developing Youth ministry.

 

SCIAF Wee Boxes: please pick up a SCIAF envelope with the Wee Box. This year SCIAF is supporting families in Rwanda.

 

Parish 200 Club: we can hand in our annual subscription to the parish 200 club. It’s £12.

 

Lourdes Pilgrimage: there is a meeting for those going to Lourdes at Cobhair Bharraigh on Thursday 28th February at 6.00pm.

 

Brecbannoch Pilgrimage 2024: this year’s walking pilgrimage from Oban to Iona Abbey will take place from 7th -10th June 2024. The purpose of the pilgrimage is to pray and make penance for the evangelisation of Scotland and for the sanctity of her priests. Pilgrims will walk 3 days, carrying the relics of St. Columba across the island of Mull until they reach Iona Abbey, where Holy Mass and a solemn procession will take place on the solemnity of St. Columba.
