CHURCH NOTICES

Requiem Mass: We remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Peigi Anna Campbell of Vatersay village who peacefully passed away on Sunday 29th October in St. Brendan’s Hospital at the age of 87. The Funeral will be on Tuesday 31st October at 11.00am in Our Lady of the Waves & St. John on Vatersay. We extend our prayers of love and sympathy to all the family, relatives and friends of Peigi Anna at this sad time. Peigi Anna was a well known and well loved character on Vatersay. She ran the small Post office on the island of Vatersay for so many years. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Holyday of Obligation: this coming Wednesday (1st November)  is the Solemnity of All Saints and is a Holyday of Obligation. Please note the three Mass times:- 10am Northbay & 12 Noon Craigston  & 7pm Castlebay

All Souls Day: Thursday 2nd November is the Feast of All Souls Day. An important day which prepares us for the month of November- the month of the Holy Souls. Please note there will be two Masses:- 10am Northbay & 12 Noon Craigston

Craigston Vigil Mass at 4pm for Winter: we will begin a 4.00pm Vigil Mass time for Craigston on Saturday 4th November. The clocks go back this weekend of (28th/29th October) and therefore the first weekend of November will be a good opportunity to move the Craigston Vigil Mass from 6pm to 4pm. Therefore from Saturday 4th November until at least March 2024 we will celebrate the Vigil Mass at 4.00pm. When the clocks go forward in 2024 we will move the Vigil Mass time back to 6pm. We will monitor how it goes with this change of vigil time for Winter!!

November Lists: one of the important things that the Church encourages us to do during the month of November is to pray for our faithful departed. The Month of November is often called the “Month of the Holy Souls”. It is a very important prayer to pray for our faithful departed and to help lead all souls to heaven. There are November lists with envelopes available at the church entrance. Please write down on the lists the names of any deceased family, relatives, friends, parishioners you would like to remember and pray for. Once you have filled in your list place the list in an envelope along with your offering. Please pass on the envelope to Canon John Paul or to place in the Sunday offertory basket. These envelopes will then be placed upon the Altar at every Holy Mass and those names you have written will be remembered at every Holy Mass during the month of November.

Graveyard Rosary: Each Sunday in November we will gather to pray the Rosary in each of our graveyards. Please note the times and dates and places. As always if the weather is really poor we will move to the nearest church.
