CHURCH NOTICES

Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Mary MacNeil of Inverness (& Barra/Eriskay) who peacefully passed away last Sunday in Inverness at the age of 87. Mary’s remains will be brought into Northbay Church on Wednesday evening. The funeral Mass will be on Thursday 31st August at 11.30am in St. Barr’s in Northbay and thereafter burial in Eoligarry. It has only been 6 months ago that we laid Mary’s late husband Cha MacNeil to rest here on the island. We extend our prayers of love & sympathy to all the family at this time. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Sick & Retired Priests Collection: Thank you for your generosity towards last weekend’s special collection for the sick and retired priests of our Diocese- Northbay £323.50 and Castlebay £530.05

Visiting Clergy: we have Fr. Josh Moir from the Archdiocese of St. Andrews & Edinburgh staying till Tuesday. He is staying over on Vatersay and he will use the Vatersay Chapel house as a retreat before he heads back to the mainland to take up his new position as assistant priest in St. Patrick’s Church in Kilsyth. We hope he enjoys his time on the island.

Eoligarry Church 60th Anniversary: Eoligarry Church opened in 1963 and therefore this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Church of St. Vincent de Paul in Eoligarry opening. The Church was opened in 1963 by Bishop Stephen McGill and the parish Priest at the time was Fr. Archie MacMaster. The Feast day of St. Vincent de Paul is 27th September. Therefore Canon John Paul plans to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Wednesday 27th September in Eoligarry, probably in the evening. After the Mass there will be Tea/coffee & home baking in Eoligarry School. All welcome.

Canon John Paul is still interested in any pictures that parishioners might have of St. Vincent’s in Eoligarry. Do you have any pictures of the church being built back in 1963 or any pictures of celebrations which have taken place in the church like Baptisms, First Holy Communion, weddings etc?? Canon John Paul would like to see any pictures and possibly put them into an order of service for the anniversary Mass on the 27th September.

Led by the Spirit Phase 2 – Consultation on our Diocesan Resources: Bishop Brian has now begun Phase 2 of “Led by the Spirit”. If you go online and go to the Website www.ledbythespirit.rcdai.org.uk and all the information is there. Bishop Brian wants us to see what the Diocese is all about and who makes up the Diocese from Bishop, Priests and religious and numbers of  lay people in our parishes. Pointing out the statistics of those who go along to Sunday Mass. Also highlighted are the finances of every parish. Go along to the website and see what phase 2 is all about it.

Northbay Church Tea after Mass: on the first Sunday of each month you are welcome after Sunday Mass to Tea/Coffee and baking in the Chapel Hall. The next one will be next Sunday 3rd September. All welcome.
