CHURCH NOTICES

Fr. David Stewart: we warmly welcome Fr. David back to the island. He will be here just for a long weekend. He will stay till Tuesday 4th July. We hope the weather will be nice and kind to him and all visitors to the island just now.

Canon John Paul: will be back on Thursday 6th July.

Recent Funeral: we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Annag Scaramangas of Grean who peacefully passed on Monday 26th June in St. Brendan’s hospital at the age of 90. Annag’s funeral took place on Wednesday 28th June in St. Barr’s in Northbay and thereafter Annag was laid to rest in Cuithir cemetery. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Fisherman’s Mass & Blessing of boats: next Sunday 9th July there will be the Annual Fisherman’s Mass and the blessing of boats at 2.00pm on Castlebay Pier car park. We are always looking for volunteers to help set up. If you can be down at the pier at 9.30am.There will be fresh herring cooked on the pier and there will be a bucket collection to support the Stella Maris and RNLI. There will be a prize for the best dressed boat. We pray that it will be a nice day for everyone and that the weather will also be kind.

Sea Sunday Collection: next Sunday (9th July) all over the UK it is Sea Sunday. It is an important day the Church unites in prayer for those who live and work upon our seas. As we all know the sea can be a dangerous place and we depend on the sea for so much of our goods and food to be transported. At all Masses the 2nd collection will be for the Apostleship of the Sea/Stella Maris.

Wedding: we keep in our prayers Aonghas MacLean & Claire Rafferty who will marry in St. Brendan’s Church in Craigston on Friday 14th July. Fr. James MacNeil will be over from Oban to celebrate the marriage of Aonghas & Claire. We hope and pray it will be a wonderful day for them and their families and that the weather will be great too!

Lourdes Parish Pilgrimage 2024:  we are looking at the 3rd weekend of May 2024 (possibly 15th-19th May 2024) for the Lourdes Pilgrimage. The pilgrimage will be for 4/5 days. The hotel will be the 4 star Jeanne D’Arc. Flying from Edinburgh to Toulouse and then a bus drive to Lourdes-about 2hrs 30mins drive. Flights will not become available until at least September/October this year-that is the reason for the delay in confirmation. However the best thing to do is to plan for the 3rd weekend of May 2024.

The Universe Catholic Paper: has decided to try once again to have a weekly paper copy. If anyone is interested in getting a copy of the Universe Paper Canon John Paul is happy to start a subscription from the parish but only if there is enough interest.

Castlebay Church Clock: Canon John Paul has been told that an engineer from the Clock firm “Smiths of Derby” will come to the island on Thursday 10th August to look at the clock and hopefully try and get the clock going again.
