CHURCH NOTICES

Monday’s Mass: please note that there will be a Mass on Monday (26th June)  in Castlebay at 10am this week. The intention of the Mass is in remembrance of the late Nanag Gillies (Nanag Ailig Dhuibh) of Glen who died back in April 2020 during the strict Covid restrictions. Nanag would be 100 this week if she were living. Nanag’s family wish to remember Nanag and to pray for her soul in Mass. You are welcome to come along to the Mass.

Funeral:we remember in our prayers the repose of the soul of Annag Scaramangas of Grean who peacefully passed on Monday 26th June in St. Brendan’s Hospital at the wonderful age of 90. Annag’s Requiem Mass will be on Wednesday 28th June in St. Barr’s Church in Northbay at 11.30am and thereafter to Cuithir Cemetery. We extend our prayers and sympathy to all family and relatives of Annag. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

Fr. David Stewart: we look forward to welcoming back Fr. David back to the island next weekend. He will be here for a long weekend. Fr David arrives on Thursday 29th June evening which is also the Solemnity of St. Peter & St. Paul and when he arrives he will celebrate Mass at 7.00pm in Castlebay Church. He will stay till Tuesday 4th July. We hope the weather will be kind to him and all our visitors.

Solemnity of St. Peter & St. Paul: this coming Thursday 29th June is the Solemnity of St. Peter & St. Paul and it is a holyday of Obligation. Please note there will be only one mass that day and it will be in the evening at 7.00pm in Castlebay church.

Canon John Paul: will be away from Tuesday 27th June till Thursday 6th July.

Fisherman’s Mass & Blessing of boats: Date for the diary- Sunday 9th July at 2.00pm in Castlebay. We are always needing volunteers to help set up. If you can be on the pier at 9.30am. After the Mass there will be fresh herring cooked. Also there will be a bucket collection to support the Stella Maris & RNLI.

Sea Sunday Collection: next Sunday (9th July) all over the UK it is Sea Sunday. It is an important day the Church unites in prayer for those who live and work upon our seas. As we all know the sea can be a dangerous place and we depend on the sea for so much of our goods and food to be transported. At all Masses next weekend the 2nd collection will be for the Apostleship of the Sea/Stella Maris.

Lourdes Parish Pilgrimage 2024:  we are looking at the 3rd weekend of May 2024 (possibly 15th May-19th May 2024?) for the Lourdes Pilgrimage. The pilgrimage will be for 4/5 days. The hotel will be the 4 star Jeanne D’Arc. Flying from Edinburgh to Toulouse and then a bus drive to Lourdes-about 2hrs 30mins drive. Flights will not become available until at least September/October this year-that is the reason for the delay in confirmation. However the best thing to do is to plan for the 3rd weekend of May 2024.

The Universe Catholic Paper: has decided to try once again to have a weekly paper copy. If anyone is interested in getting a copy of the Universe Paper Canon John Paul is happy to start a subscription from the parish but only if there is enough interest.

Castlebay Church Clock: Canon John Paul has been told that an engineer from the Clock firm “Smiths of Derby” will come to the island on Thursday 10th August to look at the clock and hopefully try and get the clock going again.
