CHURCH NOTICES
Monday: is the 8th December and is the beautiful Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Canon John Paul will celebrate Mass at 11.00am in Northbay on Monday.
Friday: there will no Friday morning Mass on Vatersay this week as Canon John Paul is involved with a judging panel for Charity which the Castlebay S3 & S4 Secondary school children are doing. The Children work in various teams to speak about a local Charity and if they speak well about why the Charity is important to them – then they could receive a cheque for £3000 for their chosen Charity. Which is a lot of money for their Charity! There will be the normal afternoon Mass in St. Brendan’s home at 2.30pm on Friday.
Advent: There are some prayer books for Advent available for children & adults.
Church Cleaning & decorating: Over the next few weeks announcements will be made on various church cleaning and decorating. Next Sunday 13th December Castlebay Church will be cleaned after the 11.30am Mass and also decorated. When you hear of any announcements to help clean & decorate please come along and help.
Borve Graveyard: the committee of the Borve Graveyard wish to thank all who have supported with generous donations over the last few weeks. Last Saturday there was a St Andrews Ceilidh in Northbay Hall which raised about £1500. Then there was an anonymous donation of £1000 and also more donations have been handed in. All donations are gratefully accepted for the maintenance of the old Borve graveyard.
Sacrament of Confession: a lovely way to prepare for Christmas is to give ourselves the perfect Christmas gift of the mercy and forgiveness of our Lord through the Sacrament of Confession.
Castlebay Church Choir Practice: each Thursday at 5.00pm in Castlebay Church. All welcome to attend!
SCIAF’S Real Gifts: if you are looking for something different and inspiring to give a loved one this Christmas then go online to the SCIAF website and check out the “Real Gifts” section. Buy a vegetable garden for £25! Buy chickens for £15 or a goat for £35 or pigs for £70! Buy some warm blankets for £18 or some School essentials for £20. Check it out!
Mary’s Meals: another lovely charity we can support at Christmas is of course Mary’s Meals. They too have an online shop to help support their good work of feeding and educating children. Check it out! As Mary’s Meals say- it costs £19.15 to feed one child for a year. It really does make us think! As we think about the birth of the Christ child in Bethlehem at Christmas lets always remember those children in our world at Christmas who are in poverty and what can we do to help.
