CHURCH NOTICES

Advent prayer books: the Church begins a new Liturgical year with the season of Advent. An important short season in the church preparing us for Christmas. There are some prayer books for adults & children available in the church porch. Booklets cost £1. The season of Advent is a very short Season so let us try and make the space for more prayer time over the next four weeks.

New Lectionary: this weekend (Sunday 1st December) we begin reading the new translation of the Lectionary.  All our Churches on the island now have brand new copies of the Lectionary. The Sunday Newsletters will have the new translation of the Readings & Psalms on them-so we will see and hear for ourselves the changes in translation. The New Lectionary will be blessed at each of the Sunday Mass on this 1st Sunday of Advent.

Sad News on vote of Assisted Dying Bill: sadly many of our politicians in the House of Commons last Friday voted in favour of the “Assisted Dying Bill”. 330 in favour and 275 against. Thankfully our own MP in the Western Isles voted against. At the moment this Bill only effects England & Wales and not Scotland. It is a sad outcome but that’s the reality we face in the world of today. We have to keep praying for the sanctity of all life.
